Gavnø Castle and Castle Park

On South Zealand, you will find one of Denmark’s most beautiful Rococo castles: Gavnø Castle. Here, fairy-tale experiences await the whole family. Step behind the castle walls and explore the flower park, the church, the brewery and the Go Fly treetop adventure courses.

What can you experience at Gavnø Castle?

Gavnø Castle is one of South Zealand’s most distinctive castles, beautifully surrounded by water and lush green landscapes. With roots dating back to the Middle Ages, the castle today offers a rare combination of cultural history, art and living stories.

Inside, lavish halls and rooms reveal centuries of castle life through rich details, colours and atmosphere. The castle chapel stands out with its vibrant interior, surprising most visitors at first sight. The visit continues through an extensive private art collection of portraits and artworks, offering unique insight into Nordic history and noble families.

Denmark’s Largest Tulip Festival

Surrounding Gavnø Castle, the castle park unfolds with ancient trees, colourful flower beds and scenic views of the water. The park invites peaceful walks, quiet moments on benches and memorable experiences for both children and adults.

Each spring, from mid-April through May, Gavnø Castle Park hosts Denmark’s largest Tulip Festival. Thousands of tulips in every colour imaginable bloom in beautifully designed displays that change each year. The floral experience continues into autumn with summer flowers, rhododendrons, perennial beds and a carefully designed rose garden. From late July throughout August, the park also welcomes visitors to the Lily Festival, where colour and fragrance take centre stage. Visitors are advised to check the castle’s website for updated festival information.

Active Adventures in the Treetops

The castle park is also home to Gavnø Go Fly, where climbing courses wind through the treetops. With varying heights and difficulty levels, both children and adults can take part. Here, nature, movement and excitement combine in a safe and adventurous setting.

Food and Drink

When it’s time for a break, enjoy food and refreshments at Café Tulipanen, offering lunches, delicious cakes and child-friendly options.

You can also visit Gavnø Castle Brewery, located in one of the historic farm buildings from the 1800s. The beer is brewed using the brewery’s own recipes and high-quality ingredients and can be enjoyed on site or taken home.

Dogs are allowed in the castle garden wearing a leash, but not in the castle. Handicap toilets are located by the entrance and handicap ramps are placed by the entrance to Café Tulipanen and the convent church.
