The Store

The lifestyle store Kafedaki is a little oasis at the end of the road – surrounded by forest and fields with horses. The cozy store is set up in a former hayloft, and the atmosphere has been preserved with visible rafters and the original concrete floor with a feed hatch. Here you can explore and find unique interior items, in the form of carefully selected products such as vases, candle holders, mugs, bowls, scarves, cushions, carpets, and there's also jewelry, soaps, flip-flops, wine, spices, puzzles, and many other items. Great emphasis has been placed on finding the right selection of products that match in style and color and that can't be found elsewhere. Opening hours can be viewed on the website: https://kafedaki.dk/

Are you looking for upcycled furniture?

In addition to the decorative arts, there is a section with upcycled furniture. They have been gently restored and appear beautiful and unique with paint, wallpaper, and new handles. With just one upcycled piece of furniture, your interior can become unique and personal.

Especially during the summer holiday

During the school summer holiday, coffee/tea and the cake of the day are sold, which can be enjoyed in the garden under the umbrella or in the cozy greenhouse.

Combine your visit

Combine your visit to the store with a walk in Viemose Forest

The forest is beautifully situated by the water – Bøgestrømmen – and fields and scattered residences on the other sides.

The forest is owned by Petersgaard Estate and is an ancient coastal forest with burial mounds and many species of deciduous and coniferous trees. The dominant trees are the tall and straight beech trees, which are sought after due to their great value for furniture and construction. Old oak trees dating back to the 1800s can be seen along the beautiful coastline, and you can also see hornbeam trees in the coastal area; hornbeam is otherwise primarily found in Central and Eastern Europe. Additionally, the forest is rich in spring flowers such as white, blue, and yellow anemones.

In Viemose Forest, close to Søndre Led, there is also a hazel grove dating back to the 1700s, where hazel branches were used for barrel hoops before it became common to make them out of iron. The hazel grove provided a good income for the farmers.

The hiking trail South Zealand Trail runs through Viemose Forest. If you don't want to walk too far, you can start at Kalvehave Harbor and walk along the water to Balle Strand; the route is well marked. It is an unusually beautiful walk with very varied terrain, including steep slopes, fruit trees, and old oak trees that have survived not being used for shipbuilding in the 1800s (naval oaks). There is also rich bird and wildlife, with opportunities to see sea eagles and porpoises.

In the middle of the forest, there are seven burial mounds called Syvhøje, with Dyrhøj being the highest at 33m. Similarly, in the middle of the forest, along the path leading to the water, is Barkladen. It was used to lay strips of oak bark to dry, which was used for tanning hides and skins.

The Viemose Stone

The Viemose Stone is a large rock carving in Viemose Forest. It contains at least 90 bowl signs, which are best known from the Bronze Age, and it can therefore be dated back to 1700 BC – 500 BC. The signs are painted so that they are easy to see. The common interpretation of the bowl signs is that they symbolize the female womb and thus fertility.

The stone can be seen here: Walk along Søndre Led into the forest and follow the road to the right that leads towards the summer houses. After a few hundred meters there are some very tall fir trees. Just before them, a path goes in the direction of Viemose, walk about 50m along the path and about 20 meters into the new planting you will find the stone.
