Brorjords Have is a unique visitor garden located in the small village of Tjørnehoved, just 4 km south of Præstø. The garden is open all year round and operates on a basis of trust and self-service, allowing visitors to explore a vibrant and diverse garden environment at their own pace.

A rosarium of historic roses

At the heart of the garden is an extensive collection of historic roses that carry centuries of cultural history. In Brorjords Have, the roses are divided into families, from the ancient Rosa alba, which can be traced back to Roman times, and Rosa damascena, known from the perfume industry, to Rosa gallica, which was a feature of medieval apothecary gardens.

Each rose is accompanied by a name sign, and each rose family has an information sign, giving both rose enthusiasts and curious beginners an educational experience. The garden also features a wide variety of rare climbing roses, some of which grow around a striking rose pavilion. Here, you can experience the roses as they grow naturally in the landscape – lush, fragrant and full of life.

A visitor garden with biodiversity and habitats for endangered butterflies

The visitor garden has been created according to the principles of permaculture and features a varied garden environment with a high level of biodiversity. Wild flower beds, native plants and important host plants for endangered butterflies create a buzzing, vibrant landscape where insects, plants and people can thrive side by side.

A modern apothecary garden

At the centre of the garden is a modern interpretation of an apothecary garden featuring traditional medicinal herbs that have historically been used for care and healing. The garden is free of poisonous plants but full of wild strawberries and herbs that invite both children and adults to smell, taste, explore with their senses and experience nature up close.

Nursery and shelter site
