Brorjord Nursery - Sustainable Nursery with Historic and Hardy Plants
Brorjords Plant Nursery is a small, sustainable plant nursery near Præstø with a special focus on historic fragrant roses, hardy native plants, and permaculture

Brorjords Plant Nursery is located in the small village of Tjørnehoved and focuses on historic roses and native plants with natural growth, high health, and long-lasting durability. Selection is based on fragrance, hardiness, use, and biodiversity rather than fast production or short lifespan.
The nursery was created with the aim of offering plants that can be experienced in their natural element before being taken home – plants that function as a natural part of the garden and can largely be left to themselves.
An experiential plant nursery – at your own pace
Brorjords Plant Nursery operates as an experiential nursery based on trust and self-service. Visitors are invited to explore at their own pace, find inspiration, and decide which plants suit their garden and preferences. The nursery is generally unstaffed, but in-person guidance is available by appointment.
A sustainable plant nursery with permaculture as a foundation
The nursery is based on permaculture principles. Horses and chickens are incorporated into a circular design, where grazing, scratching, and natural cycles are integrated directly into plant cultivation. Wild areas, natural seed dispersal, and biodiversity are an integral part of plant production.
About Brorjords Have
Directly adjoining the nursery is Brorjords Have – an open garden with a rosarium, climbing roses, wildflower beds with high biodiversity, and a modern apothecary garden with medicinal herbs. The garden serves as a living showroom where plants can be experienced before purchase. More info: www.brorjord.dk/brorjords-have
Roses on own roots – a conscious choice
Some of the roses at Brorjords Plant Nursery are grown on their own roots. This means the plant grows on its own roots rather than being grafted. Roses on own roots can become very old, are less susceptible to diseases at the graft, and produce a more stable, natural plant over time.
Experience the plants – and take them home
In addition to roses, the nursery offers a varied selection of perennials, medicinal herbs, and native plants – depending on the season. Many plants can be experienced directly in the garden, where visitors can note the plants they wish to purchase.
The nursery’s philosophy is to keep plants in the ground as long as possible until needed. This reduces water and resource use and makes the concept more sustainable. If a desired plant is not available in a pot, it can be ordered or dug directly from the garden by arrangement.
For those seeking plants and solutions for a more natural and sustainable way of gardening, Brorjords Plant Nursery is well worth a visit.
