Bike Path - Vildtbanen

Vildtbanen - "The Wild Game" Route is a family-friendly cycling route of 15 kilometers that passes through the old hunting grounds of one of Denmark's most famous kings.

You don’t need to be Jonas Vingegaard or particularly adventurous to complete the Wild Game Route. The cycling route is only 15 kilometers long and named after King Christian IV's large hunting grounds from 1616. The king had exclusive hunting rights on the Wild Game Route, which was enclosed by embankments, ditches, and fences to prevent animals from escaping and unauthorized people from entering. In fact, it was the largest of its kind in Northern Europe, covering an impressive 400 km².

The Wild Game Route connects Zealand at its narrowest point near Dybsø Fjord by Næstved with Præstø Fjord, offering plenty of nature along the way. Numerous wading birds stop in the two fjords, providing plenty of wildlife to observe from the saddle.

After covering the 15 kilometers, there are great opportunities for both young and old cyclists to enjoy a large waffle cone or a delicious lunch at one of the cozy cafés in Præstø Harbor.

The Wild Game Route links the national coastal cycling routes, the Baltic Sea Route and the Copenhagen-Berlin Route. Along the way, you can learn the full story of the old Wild Game Route from the small information boards set up along the path.
